Due to his helpful nature and dedication to public service, Inspector Ryan Su of Chinese descent from the Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) has been recommended to become the New York State Veteran Court Ambassador, where he will assist veterans in a range of matters. As the first Chinese ambassador, Ryan Su feels honored and aims to help more minority veterans, including those of Chinese descent.
Ryan Su mentioned that he received a call from Judge Marcia Hirsch of the Queens County Criminal Courts Veterans Treatment Court a few days ago, who, after seeing his numerous accomplishments, wanted him to serve as a Veteran Court Ambassador, volunteering to assist veterans. Ryan Su immediately accepted, saying, "I said, as long as I can help people, I am willing."
On New Year's Day this year, Ryan Su came to the aid of an accident victim. At the scene of a car accident on the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens, where a red SUV lost control and collided with a white SUV, bystanders watched without helping. Ryan Su, who was off duty that day and happened to be driving on the road, quickly got out of his car, checked on the injured white person in the red vehicle, and called nearby NYPD officers for help. The injured person told him, "You arrived just in time."
In his spare time, Ryan Su often educates people on various social platforms on handling tickets, bank fraud, and more. Gradually, many Chinese individuals turn to Ryan Su for help when facing difficulties. He has become a well-known peace officer in the New York Chinese community, renowned for his willingness to assist.
Regarding his role as a Veteran Ambassador, Ryan Su stated that as a veteran himself, he understands the difficulties and emotions of fellow veterans. He can communicate with and understand them because he has been through similar situations. He mentioned that most veterans face challenges related to employment and housing after leaving the military, with limited avenues for assistance, especially for Asian American veterans. Ryan Su added, "I managed to find a job and housing on my own, and now I can pass on my experience to others."
Reportedly, Ryan Su will participate in a "mentor project training" to become an ambassador, where he will be paired with some veterans to understand their needs, help with resource referrals, and provide feedback. He emphasized that this is just the beginning, as he plans to assist veterans in various other ways.
The statement from the Veteran Court mentioned, "Officer Su's involvement and support will be of immense value to the veteran community and the New York State Veteran Court. Organizers believe his presence will have a profound impact."
