慧能（638-713），亦作“惠能”，俗姓卢，生于南海新兴（今属广东）。唐代高僧，禅宗南宗创始人，佛教史上称为禅宗六祖。Hui Neng (638-713), Lu by secular surname, a native of Xinxing, Nanhai (in present-day Guangdong Province). An eminent monk in the Tang dynasty, he was the founder of the Southern Zen sect, and was called the sixth ancestor of Zen sect in the history of Buddhism. (杨瑾 译)
