Pianist
By Ken Fan
He's always the first one to arrive,
Sits down at the corner,
Takes out the music books from a bag,
Puts on the piano carefully,
With head towards the center of the classroom,
And hands on the lap, waiting.
With a clapping by the teacher,
One, two, begin!
He then sets to play,
so immersed like a clockwork,
Sweating quietly.
Teachers all like him,
Kids don't seem to know his real name,
Simply call him the pianist.
He's somewhat disabled in learning.
Only those musical hands
May have led people to forget those disadvantages.
He fell in love with piano at a young age,
A lifetime companion so it becomes.
Today is his last day for the class,
And he stands up slowly afterwards.
He takes out a small piece of paper
Reading with stutter:
— I'm a happy man,
With wonderful parents
Thirty years now,
I could play music while you dance,
The most beautiful angels!
Everyday on the way home,
some notes have been hovering over my ears,
And I've recorded them.
Now become six impromptus.
Never dare to show to others.
If you allow me just ten minutes,
I can play a few excerpts here,
Alright?
......
Not Chopin,
Not Debussy.
Just a true heart of a pianist.
Before the end of the ten minutes,
Tears swelling in every eyes....
