第十三章
宠辱若惊,贵大患若身。何谓宠辱若惊?宠为下,得之若惊,失之若惊,是谓宠辱若惊。何谓贵大患若身?吾所以有大患者,为吾有身,及吾无身,吾有何患?故贵以身为天下,若可寄天下;爱以身为天下,若可托天下。
Chapter 13
Men become startled when pampered or shamed. They are keenly aware of disasters just as their bodies. Why has to be startled when pampered or shamed? Being pampered is only for the inferior, who would be disturbed either receiving or losing it, and that’s it. Why has to be aware of disasters like one’s own body? A disaster occurs only because your body exists. Where would be any disaster should there be no body? Hence, take care of your health for the sake of the world, which has been entrusted to you; love your body for the sake of world, which will depend on you.

第十四章
视而不见,名曰夷;听之不闻,名曰希;搏之不得,名曰微。此三者不可致诘,故混而为一。其上不徼,其下不昧,绳绳兮不可名,复归于无物。是谓无状之状,无物之象,是谓惚恍。迎之不见其首,随之不见其后。执古之道,以御今之有。能知古始,是谓道纪。
Chapter 14
The things that can’t be seen is called colorless, that can’t be heard is called soundless, that can’t be touched is called shapeless. These three are self evident, altogether is actually an identical thing. It doesn’t appear brighter from above, nor darker from below, but an unnamed chaos, and ultimately nothingness. In other words, it’s something with no shapes, some impression with nothing, and it’s called uncertainty. Its front can’t be observed when confronting, and its back can’t be observed when following. Uphold the ancient Tao, and apply to present daily affairs. Once its origin is found, the Tao could be better understood.
第十五章
古之善为道者,微妙玄通,深不可识。夫不唯不可识,故强为之容;豫兮若冬涉川;犹兮若畏四邻;俨兮其若客;涣兮其若凌释;敦兮其若朴;旷兮其若谷;混兮其若浊;孰能浊以静之徐清?孰能安以静之徐生?保此道者,不欲盈。夫唯不盈,故能蔽而新成。
Chapter 15
An ancient Taoist was delicate and knowledgeable, as well as supremely profound. He’s often depicted inaccurately due to lack of familiarity, such as: overly cautious like treading on winter glaciers, or overly alerted like fearing neighbors, or overly respectful like expecting guests. He is as nimble as melting ice, as honest and down to the earth, as broad-minded as deep valley, as forgiven as muddy water. Who could calm and clarify the muddiness in the water? Who could restart a motionless state and make it alive? A Taoist will never be self-content, and will make improvements as a result.
