看完老电视剧《孔子》,于为人处世、敬天勤民又有了新的认识,也深深体会到圣人无法实现抱负的必然性。孔子自己也承认,推行仁德虽是利国利民的好事,天下之人却无法接受。我想,这大抵因为世俗的利益纠纷仍有烦恼和牵绊。
孔子在世时过分拘泥于礼,一生致力于恢复周礼,实则走入死胡同。孔圣人虽有位列上卿大夫之时,其弟子亦不乏能臣良将,却最终无法实现抱负。若稍有变通或者降低标准,夫子之道便可行于天下,即使不至完美,亦好于不得其志。况在人人尊礼之时再行拔高,也未尝不可。
孔老论道,是出世与入世的交锋,孔子做不到避世隐居,他要推行仁政。可孔子一生难得其志,终与众弟子说出自己的最高理想:天下大同。马克思称这种社会形态为共产主义社会,这也是孙中山先生所追求的理想社会。
仁德之道,天下为公的说法,似又与老子的主张有几分相像。而董仲舒所谓罢黜百家,独尊儒术,实则糅合百家之新儒术,故新的儒释道三家实则同源同归,道不同而已。
儒家中庸之道,不偏不倚,若以术论,实则老好人,谁都不得罪。若以道论,则持正守中,趋利避害,为易之精髓。佛家传入中国后,经过千百年与儒道两家的思维碰撞、理念对抗和借鉴吸收,已与两家融为一体,一起构成传统价值观。因此,三家同源同归,道不远人。
从传统价值体系中提炼为人处世之道、治学之道、为官之道和用人之道等,最重要的是学会洞察人性,洞悉人心。如此便可举一反三、融会贯通,领悟要义。
比如对《论语》“学而时习之,不亦乐乎?有朋自远方来,不亦悦乎?人不知而不蕴,不以君子乎?”一句的解读,不同的人生阅历和思维深度会有不同的体悟。我现在能体会到的是:君子应保持坚守,能行其道时尽心尽力,无法得志能继续坚守。这是儒家的解释,而释道两家以此切入照样能自圆其说。

By enjoying the teleplay “Confucius”, I got some new thinking about being human and serving the people, and realized the inevitability for saints to be poor administrators. Confucius himself admitted that though it’ll benefit to the people and the country to carry out benevolent policies, the people just can’t accept. I think it’s because that the annoyance and worry kept when the mundane interest dispute rises.
During his life, Confucius overemphasized propriety and devoted himself to recovering propriety of Zhou dynasty, but he got lost. He was once a senior officer and has lots of talented and virtuous students, but still cannot realize his thinking. It will be done if he make a change or reduce the standard, not perfect as it, but will be better than failure. And he can improve to a higher standard when the people are ready.
The discussion between Confucius and Lao Zi reflected the conflict of being official and hermit, but Confucius won’t be a hermit, he must complete the propriety. He didn’t realize his thinking, and said his final dream to students: great harmony. That is the communism society of Marx, and the ideal society of Dr. Sun Yat-sen.
The thinking of propriety and “one world one community” are similar to the proposition of Lao Zi. And the so called “cancel all the thoughts except Confucianism” said by Dong Zhongshu is in fact a new Confucianism mixed with all the other thoughts. So, the three studies of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism are from and to a same point, their only difference is how to arrive.
The golden mean and nonparty of Confucianism is offending nobody seeing from skills, but neutralist who will draw on advantages and avoid disadvantages from methods. That’s also the essence of Yi.
After the conflicting, revolting and absorbing with each other for thousands of years, Buddhism, together with Confucianism and Taoism, has formed a united traditional value. The most important thing when seeking for methods of bearing oneself, making study, governing the country and using talents from traditional value is to see through humanity and understand popular feeling thoroughly. If you can, you will compare, digest and then get the essence.
For the sentence “how happy it is if studying and reviewing continuously, how pleasure it is if friends come from far away, and what a gentleman if others don’t understand but I still keep happy.” from The analects of Confucius, people with different experiences and thinking will give different comments. And what I can reach is: a gentleman should stick fast to his ideal, try his best to realize or hold tightly. That’s the explanation of Confucianism, but also correct in Buddhism and Taoism.
