THE LONG LOST SPRING
Yu Rong Su
Because of the epidemic, people all over the world are forced to stay at home. The libraries are closed, the schools are closed, and online teaching is required. At first, my students and I were not used to the technological changes that were not previously possible. But now we can actually take classes remotely and visit homes remotely. This opened my eyes to new technology that I was blind to before.
Although it has been a big challenge, as time goes by, my students and I have adapted and we now enjoy these new ways of online learning, online home visits and online meetings.
Now we are accustomed to it. Not only that, I participate in choirs, online piano classes, and online art classes on the internet. I have learned a lot and I am very busy every day. Despite staying at home for a few days or even a few weeks at a time, I am not feeling lonely.
The days pass – day after day, and sometimes I have forgotten what day it is, and in a blink of an eye it is mid-March. This morning, a glow came in through my window, and the sunshine reached me on my bed. I was like a hibernating bear, awakened by the warm and bright sunlight, and I suddenly realized, spring is really here! So I decided to go out for a walk today.
Just a few days ago, there were mounds of snow on the sides of the road, like a series of mountains. But now, the snow has disappeared with the warmth of the sun. A few early tulips are poking out of the soil, tender and green. Even more gratifying, there are some pretty white snowdrops already flowering. This charming little flower is so lovely.
My curiosity prompted me to come to the backyard, and when I saw small buds appearing vaguely on the dry grape vines, I was so excited that I almost shouted, “great!”
Winter changes into spring. Yes! The beautiful spring has come! I was ecstatic and decided to take a walk to the nearby park.

Along the way, I took a deep breath of fresh air under the blue sky, and enjoyed the warm and beautiful sunshine. The spring breeze brought a bit of chill, but I didn't feel cold. I suddenly remembered a line from an ancient poem: “the willow dances with the joy of the spring”.
All this nature is so beautiful and so kind. These things that we take for granted when we are busy every day, turning a blind eye, today seem to me more cordial and beautiful.
When I came to the park, I saw the grassland at first glance. Recently covered in heavy snow, I saw that the snow was completely gone. The old dry grass was interspersed with patches of new green grass. I couldn't help but admire the tenacious vitality of this little grass.
Suddenly I heard the birds chirping from the branches of the trees, as if telling people, “spring is coming. Spring is coming!” Several young children were jumping for joy in the children’s playground. They were swinging, playing on the slide, up and down – so happy! Their parents wore masks and watched their children while chatting nearby.
Two dog walkers also wore masks and watched the puppies happily running, jumping, and playing on the big grass. Two young people were practicing basketball on the basketball court. Some middle-aged and elderly people also were out walking in groups of two or three. Most of the people still wore masks and consciously kept social distance. Although the epidemic is severe, it cannot stop people's desire to love life, love the sunshine, and to enjoy the warmth of spring.

Looking at all this in front of me, I can’t help but look forward to spring. I hope the epidemic will be eliminated as soon as possible. I hope that more people will be able to enjoy this beautiful spring freely!
