The Wall Street Bull (and another poem)
By LUO Xingwu
Of those coming from afar to be close to the bull
None is planning to work on a farm
This bullock, who made his way into the upper class
Has, in the modern world, turned into an alienation specimen
Every inch of the bull is polished bright with touching
An insolent woman pinched his gigantic ball
People devote all their passion
To the speeding up of his aberrance with them
A rogue bull in Wall Street
Sometimes baffles top economists
This is when the Wall Street bosses,
Sipping some blood red wine, rejoice
Looking a Crocodile in his Eye
An inlet, beautiful yet evil
Is the territory of a crocodile
An unexpected visitor
Could be his express delivered lunch
The moment he leans his head on the gunwale
Voracity is confronted with fear
That the slightest maneuver
Would trigger an attack in a wink
Looking a crocodile in his eye
Is the last bravery in my life
In despair, I see the crocodile shed tears
Perhaps, that is the sacrificial rite for me
2. The Soul Hidden Deep in Flesh(2poems)
By WANG Baoyi
(1)
Marital relationship is the first civilization
That bid goodbye to the life of primitive tribal communes
To the ignorance
I suppose it was a sunny morning
Lovers were riding horses
The sun-lit lake was clear and calm
A pair of intimate Mandarin ducks frolicked
Birds sang their best wishes in silk trees*
The couple riding the horse
Are holding a child of hope
Having been through ups and downs
They have come to this day
Note:
Silk tree is a common name for Albizia tree. Its Chinese name means getting happily together. Different legends tell how its name comes into being. Modern science proves its flowers and barks help treat depression and anxiety and thus give it name of “happy tree.”
(2)
My body grows with the wheat
Golden ears rest deep in my soul
Wide urban streets
Are just not as folksy as country roads
I cannot change the world
But my own body
On a rainy day, bring an umbrella
In winter, slip on a heavy coat
My soul, when the body is numb,
Sneaks out
Wandering in the infinite skies
Or touring the world in Confucius wooden carriage
Or sitting with Lao Tseu at Louguan Temple in Qin Mountains
Or silently meditating in the quiet valley
Or exchanging adages with Buddha under the botree
Till the real mundane world drifts off to nihility
An ant
Crawls between the pause of a soul
Searching for a pure and quiet nook
3. Pregnancy (and another poem)
By ZHANG Wenbiao
We made love on the couch
And the couch was pregnant
She then remained indoors
She examined herself
Keeping watch out of the window
Diligently, she drank the moonlight
And diligently, the sun
Until one day, she threw up
Music, grass, cows, and sheep
Oh rivers, rivers were hung on the sky
Knocking on the door brought in
Wind and sand, together with one wild night
The Sandy Beach Under the Waxing Moon
How the spindrift is like an elderly
Who lets children
Pull his silver beard
The waxing moon, she is a temperate poet
She whispers songs to the sea
The beach, though full of dead bodies, has no death
Oh, that gust of wind
Is the arms of my love
We sing in praise of the past, and burry it too
We look at each other in the affectionate eye
A wildland full of flowers
Listen, listen to the whispers of the spindrift
If only we must return, and the spindrifts roll up again
Whose banquet is it under the light
In the vast emptiness, what does Buddha disclose again
4、Culturing Mushroom
By Anan Jingjing
Being busy, for me, is like the bombard creeper vines, entangled with the wall for years
All I want is to escape into the fungus culture medium, to create a grand flourishing
I need to make a change to this taupe fate of mine
Let the soil that has been moist for years cultivate wings
That can reach the sky. Moonlight, breeze, and fresh dew
All wither in your full blooming smiles
I steal a moment of leisure in my full schedule
To go find you a vale
Where you can grow heaven and fascination
Let the roots of love extend
From your flowers in wild bloom
Take the nutrition
To support that rusty bones
In my body, and
The shadow strayed for years
5、Walking in the Shadows of Time
By MU Zhi
The exiled moonshine is willing to be held in bird’s beaks
The fluttering butterflies dance in peach tree blossoms
We walk in the shadows of time
The sharp bleeding blades, the dead grief
Swirl and sink into the biting cold agony
With the whirling snow, escape or return
Liquor warmed with pear flowers, alone in my chamber
Nowhere I can find the nostalgia
Nothing can be done but ferry myself
Between plants and rocks, then
Pat off the dirt and dust, like a weary bird, return to nest
With the time of vast sky and boundless wilds
In the grass lowered by the wind
Arrive at the hometown where my soul converts
Some traces of the days are lost
On the red lanterns hung in the misty rain
Flashes my shadow walking through the days
I think of the falling moon recedes alone
No matter the days shut up or not
There are still old friends with me walking in the snow
On the sun-lit lake
Together we listen to birds sing, and see cooking smoke sways
