五言长诗•旧居小河旁

年少性乖张，爹娘宠幼郎。
拒干家务事，果品喜新尝。
撒泼寻欢闹，妄为忒轻狂。
调皮无定所，愉悦有良方。
寻得绝佳地，小河游乐场。
潜身伏河底，仰泳水为床。
戏水争浪顶，比拼憋气长。
河深作好梦，水戏永无忘。
荏苒光阴过，男儿气显昂。
辛劳建功业，勤勉为家忙。
甲子享颐养，老来心和祥。
常常思故里，百绪结愁肠。
漫漫飞银燕，欣欣返故乡。
浦东降落后，喜气顿飞扬。
的士到虹口，旧居心中装。
木桥留记忆，记得小河旁。
辗转团团转，徜徉意失常。
来回细寻索，无处见吾房。
幸得行人助，吾望终得偿。
沙泾港仍在，无有旧模样。
河水清如许，花开河畔香。
连天芳草碧，绿树绕河塘。
又问一行者，请其说细详。
此公开口道：缘起建房商。
旧屋夷平地，高楼坐中央。
周边新别墅，安乐享时光。
主雅亭台美，园幽花作墙。
归来自叹息，旧事莫思量。
人世多仙境，中华更富强。
注： 1）显昂：显扬之意。
2）百绪：思绪繁多。
3）沙泾港：上海一条连接苏州河之小小支流，与我儿时旧居近在咫尺。
My Home Place Can Not Be Found

My childhood was fantastic,
Specially cared by Mom and Dad.
Never knew what was the housework,
Just enjoyed full freedom and delicious food.
Young neighbors took me as a loyal friend,
We happily played around and around.
That was the time,
When China was poor and backward,
Public playing facilities were not provided.
When Summer vacation finally arrived,
Swimming in the river was our favorite.
We enjoyed water games to the full extent,
Who cared if water was clean or not.
Like submarine, fish or frog,
Summer swimming brought us a lot of comfort.
The river was our Disneyland!
How fast the time had passed,
Gradually, I was from a child to an adult,
Now even living abroad and enjoying retirement.
Never forget going back for a visit.
To the home place in Shanghai where I lived.
Just a few years ago,
An airplane took me to Shanghai, my homeland,
My heart was filled with excitement.
Taxi took me to the hotel designated,
After a short rest,
I set up for finding the place I dreamed of a lot.
Romantically strolled,
And then anxiously searched,
“Where was the home place I used to reside?”
I walked and walked,
But the shabby and dear house could not be found.
I then tried to reach that river so closed,
With the help of a local man who was old,
I finally go to the riverside.
Opening my eyes wide,
It was disbelieved:
The river water seemed to be “purified”.
Beautiful flowers and trees were planted.
It was obvious:
My home no longer existed,
Luxury villas were instead.
Charming gardens and lawns
Respectively owned by every household,
Hedge was made by evergreen shrub.
Living atmosphere was peaceful and pleasant.
Giving a sigh,
I stopped and mumbled:
“Do not concern too much about the past,
The new world is indeed the best.
China has tremendously changed,
People’s life greatly improved,
That is something I really hope”!
