想起少年时代的情怀与往事，
都已经去远了，
是镜花，也是水月。
那一切的水月和歌，
虽曾真实存在过，
却已默默流失，这就是无常。

When I think of my adolescent years,
Everything has already gone.
It's like the flower in the mirror or the moon in the water.
But everything had been there for sure,
the moon in the water and the song.
In silence everything is lost.
And that is anicca or inpermanence.
今天扫完今天的落叶，
明天的树叶不会在今天掉下来，
不要为明天烦恼，
要努力地活在今天这一刻。

Sweep the fallen leaves of today,
For the leaves of tomorrow shall never fall today.
Don't be worried about tomorrow.
Live at present moment with all your might.
你是你，已不是最初的你!
你是你，也不是昨天的你!
每天的睡去，是旅程的一个终站。
每天的醒来，是旅程的一个起点。

The same is you,
But you're not one whom I met first.
The same is you,
But you're not one as you were yesterday.
Every day is the final stop when you sleep.
Everyday is a new beginning when you wake up.
能感受山之美的人不一定要住在山中，
能体会水之媚的人不一定要住在水旁，
能欣赏象牙球的人不一定要握象牙球，
只要心中有山有水有象牙球也就够了，
因为最美的事物
永远是在心中不是在眼里。

The appreciator of the beauty of
mountains doesn't have to live
in the mountains;
The appreciator of the charm
of water doesn't have to live by the water;
The appreciator of the ivory
ball doesn't have to hold the ball.
It's good enough to have the mountains,
the water and the ivory ball in your heart,
For the things with stunning beauty stay in your heart,
not in your eyes.
最要紧的是，
使我们自己有柔软的心，
柔软到我们看到
一朵花中的一片花瓣落下，
都使我们动容颤抖，知悉它的意义。
唯其柔软，我们才能敏感;
唯其柔软，我们才能包容;
唯其柔软，我们才能精致;
也唯其柔软，我们才能超拔自我，
在受伤的时候甚至能包容我们的伤口。

What really matters is to have a "soft heart",
Soft enough for us to apprehend the meaning
of a petal when it falls from a flower,
And quiver in its process.
Only by its softness can we become sensitive;
Only by its softness can we become tolerant;
Only by its softness can we become delicate;
And only by its softness can we surpass ourselves,
And accept everything when we get hurt.

作者:林清玄，1953年出生 ，笔名：秦情、林漓、林大悲、林晚啼、侠安、晴轩、远亭等。台湾高雄人，当代著名作家、散文家、诗人、学者。著名散文《查塔卡的杜鹃》。文章《和时间赛跑》、《桃花心木》选入人教版、北师大版小学语文课本。1953年生于中国台湾省高雄旗山。毕业于中国台湾世界新闻专科学校。曾任台湾《中国时报》海外版记者、《工商时报》经济记者、《时报杂志》主编等职。他是台湾作家中最高产的一位，也是获得各类文学奖最多的一位，也被誉为"当代散文八大作家"之一。
